Cycling – Santa Ponca Trail

The Mallorca Tourist people really have their heads screwed on. Not only do they devote masses of resource to keeping the areas clean and tidy but they go out of their way to provide first rate facilities for cyclists and running.
A case in point is the cycle track that runs from Palma Nova (I picked it up near the Pirates Show theatre in Magaluf) but I’m pretty sure the cycle path runs right along the coast. Anyway, this cycle path is a good 30 foot wide, it’s got plenty of trees lining it to provide welcome shade and apart from the points at which it crosses roads requires very little thinking to just jaunter along or go like hell along if you wanted to.

Me and Mike the Bike (had forgotten that Margaret had christened him!) hit the mean streets of Palma Nova at about 7:30 and got to a place called Port Adrianne and back in time for Match of the Day and the mighty DCFC at 8:40 local time).

The path runs by two golf courses (Poniente and Santa Ponsa) and is pretty flat only slight inclines here and there.

There’s a lot of rural/agricultural ground that’s pretty too and mountains in the background in places. The only problem I had was coming back the cycle track seemed to peter out in the middle of a kids playground in Magaluf which was interesting? Am sure there’s another way that comes round the edge of the Motorway and down the edge of Palma Nova – am going to check it out tomorrow and give myself enough time to get to Santa Ponca and back. Report to follow!!!
