Thursday post - still gutted!!!

Cripes, am killing myself this week with exercise and the weight doesn't seem to be moving - 14st 12lbs again this morning 5.5lbs on from last week - I know I was making poor choices at the weekend but no movement at all???

Have got 80 miles on the clock near as damnit (see above), been to the gym every night this week (although last night didn't manage the 30 mins run endurance goal I've set myself - had a break at about 20mins), I still got 4.5km done and did the 2000m row in under 8 and a half minutes which is pretty good for me, have upped the weights as well.

Which all leads to the question (as four non-blondes might say) - "what's going on??"

Sure you already know all this, 3500kc=1lb weight loss. You've used 5500kc on the bike, that on it's own should be 1.5lbs but only if you know what your base calorie intake needs to be. Then again your weight loss may slow down if you start ramping up the heavy weights stuff and replace fat with muscle, use a tape rather than the scales. Better still i used to use clothes as a measure when i lost weight. I didn't need to lose as much as you already have done, (only 2 stone). I'm about 5'10/11"ish (39) and weight varies a pound either side of 175lb. I run 60-90miles/month and cycle 200miles/month average 19mph at mostly aerobic rate. Don't own a car, i have a trailer for the bike which adds another 50-100miles a month shopping and errands@13av mph. I count about 2400-2800calories a day. Been doing this for about 5 years.

Blimey that's going for it - 60-90miles a month running - top stuff! Impressed with you not needing a car too - I work about 25 miles away from home and my wife is anchored down in Ashbourne and refuses to move so a car is an essential for me. On saying that I love cycling now so that's made my exercise regime much easier.

I have to admit that following Slimming World's plan means that have not been doing any calorie counting whatever!! However I'm a bit of a recorder of numbers so whenever the running machines says 500kcals I make a note of it - it's bit depressing to know that 500kcals is worth about 2oz!! especially as 30 minutes at 10+ km/h damn near kills me!!. When I say am gutted am exaggerating really (playing to the crowd?) for sympathy's sake. In reality am chuffed to bits to be where I am now. It's just a bit of a bugbear that it's such a big gain. I reckon I can shift it by next week and as you say it's not like I suddenly feel I need bigger clothes or anything.

Take care and thanks for the comment.

When i first read your blog, 100 miles a week sounded quite a lot to me. But doing it like you do, its quite possible. The same applies with my running & cycling, 5 days @ 3miles/day=15milesx4weeks=60miles for the month. Mix it up a bit, few shorter/faster, some longer runs in-between and it soon mounts up. I do 3or4 10 milers at flat out pace, (30-40mins depending on hills) and then a longer 20 mile at the weekend around glossop/snake pass and that covers my 200 for the month. The supermarkets an 11 mile round trip so the miles soon stack up on the errand bike. I like to read other peoples blog mostly as an incentive to push myself or to do a bit better each month, or at least not slack off. Give it a few weeks and the BBC/Media will be telling you that cycling more than 3 times a week gives you cancer. Listening to your ipod gives you ear cancer. Good exercise, good food a bit of alcohol in moderation you'll give yourself the best chance in life. If ham and bacon kills you why don't jews live longer than the average?

Yes, 100 miles a week is just 20 miles a day and Sunday off for good behaviour!! Love this idea of a trailer there's a chap works in our call centre has a trailer on his trek bike am going to find out how much weight he tows in it. Nice to hear from you again, if you want to see a really good blog check out Frank Kinlan's - it motivated me no end.

Just realised my maths isn't quite bop on in the post above!!! Hell, that's what you get when working in I.T for 20 years!!!

That's where i got the link to your site from. Got a single wheel trailer, pull it with race or hybrid, bit skittish on compact frame&23mm tyres, better with longer frame&35mm tyres. Starts flapping about 25mph unloaded, 20mph loaded. Carry 25kg from the supermarket, but have carried 2bags dog food (34kg). Have the use of wifes car but i like being odd. Fluorescent yellow tights in winter, the snooty neighbours must love me.

There's nothing odd about biking - tell you what, in ten years time when petrol's costing £3 a litre you'll be seen as being ahead of your time! You want to see them in Amsterdam where you got mothers riding along with two kids on the bike with them - they've got it together over there - course it's a wee bit flatter which helps!!!

All the best
Paul
